What an AI agent actually sees when it reads your store

By Ankit Minocha. Founder, Atomz. Updated May 20, 2025.

An AI agent does not see your homepage. It reads your structured data: product type, attributes, metafields, and schema. If those fields are thin, the agent has almost nothing to match a shopper's question against.

Why your design is invisible to an agent

A shopper sees photography, layout, and copy. An agent crawls the HTML and the structured data underneath. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot do not run JavaScript, so anything injected by client code is invisible to them. What is left is the catalog data in the server-rendered page.

The test you can run today

Open a product page and strip away the images and the prose. What attributes are left in a structured form? You are looking for things like material, fit, use case, and compatibility. If the answer is 'almost none,' that product loses every query that depends on those attributes.

The fix

Map your catalog to the Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy and write the attributes to your metafields. Each filled attribute is one more match point.
